The news about Anti-Jihad ad in NYC subway reached Russia. Actually, it appeared in the central media outlets already two days ago, but didn’t receive much attention.
However, on September 22, a short post was published in the blog of Rustem Adagamov (one of the most influential Russian bloggers) and it quickly accumulated hundreds of comments.
The post itself contains only the below picture and short description of the ad saying that on Monday it will be featured in 10 stations of NYC subway. So, let’s see what Russian netizens (readers of Adagamov’s blog) think about this ad.

Lets be thankful that Islam is the religion of peace. Can you imagine what they would be like if they were the religion of violence?

Imagine if it said “In the battle between Christian and Jews…” or “In the battle between the White man and the Black man…” That wouldn’t be allowed, because those groups are considered part of the “Judeo-Christian World” but Muslims are not. Terrible. I wonder if humans will ever learn that insults lead to insults leads to violence leads to war leads to misery on both sides. While I understand what you are saying, I am not sure I fully agree. On the whole, you probably shouldn’t generalize, but Muslims have been doing a great job at proving that they are barbarians living several centuries behind the rest of the world. While I understand that such a statement doesn’t describe the whole of Islam, it definitely describes its most vocal people, and thats who the world sees.
And what have we been doing? Overthrowing elected governments, using bulldozers to bury thousands of Iraqi soldiers alive, turning our backs on our allies as soon as we get what we want, killing half a million children with medical sanctions (refusing the sick medical supplies!), killing another million looking for fake WMD’s… I mean, when it comes to being barbarians, we set the standard. “Oh, they burned our flag and killed three of our people! How dare they!” Give me a fucking break. They have their animals for sure. I want to puke when I think of the horrors of 9/11, Beslan, the Theater Hostage Crisis. Those psychopaths involved should be drawn and quartered. But to act as if this all comes out of nowhere – that this is their “culture”, they are the evil and we are the light – that is just moronic and we prove the opposite every single day.
On a general note, I’d like to note that the comments of Russian netizens (at least those, left in Agadamov’s blog) are mostly affirmative of the content, but not the form of this placard.
It is NOT the result of sympathy towards Israel – rather this is the result of growing Islamophobia in Russia due to the conflicts with the local Islamic ethnic minorities (Chechens and Dagestanis).
I read an article saying that these regions are heavily infiltrated by Wahabi’s from Saudi Arabia instigating violence, is this the news in Russia as well?
Lately I few times have stumbled upon speculations in RuNet (Russian Internet) that Americans are sponsoring the activity of terrorists in Russian Caucasus as the part of their anti-Russian strategy.
Nothing like the zealotism that spawns from nation-states so closely intertwined with religion, and how it sparks ‘words of revolution’ everywhere. Noone will ever get to the true issue, let the ‘sky-wizards’ handle their own problems, humanity is more important.
