Drugoi writes:

Actually, I thought that dog fighting belongs to the past.

We have the Article 245 in the Criminal Code – “Cruelty to animals.” It says: “Cruelty to animals, which caused their death or injury if the act is committed … out of greed, … or in the presence of minors … group of persons by prior conspiracy or by an organized group – shall be punishable by a fine of one hundred thousand to three hundred thousand rubles or the salary or other income for a period of one year to two years, or by compulsory works for a period of one hundred eighty to two hundred forty hours, or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.

Dog fights have been long prohibited in most countries, except the most wild ones, such as Afghanistan. I wonder why we still continue this medieval barbarism on the territory of Russia?

For example, on November 7 2012, there was the first round of the so-called Championship of the Southern Federal District in dog fighting (modestly called “Tests of Wolfhounds”) held in Abinsk, Krasnodar Krai.

Reactions of Russian netizens

codename_mika:  F**king hell.

prodamnedorogo (replying to the above):  This is part of the national happening in Chechnya. It’s like the Oktoberfest in Germany.

These hounds have been specifically raised to kill each other for the entertainment of the owners and their friends.

miike74:  In the description above it was said that these were the tests of the working qualities of the breed. Without deaths and injuries. The hunting dogs are also trained, while innocent foxes and badgers goes suffer for nothing …

maxho_ufa:  I personally don’t regard it as Russia.

andsey (replying to the above):  You think that in Bashkiria or the neighboring Tatarstan they don’t have such fights?

misharmen (replying to the above):  I am from Tatarstan and I claim – we don’t have such fights.

bolshoy_ru:  I am from Piter, and we do have.

birdset:  I somewhere read that Inshakov – the president of Russian Kennel Club – is the big fan and organizer of dog fights.

behemothus:  In Chechnya the dog fights long time are held without the participation of dogs!

andsey:  By the way, why wouldn’t the civilized world ban the boxing?

cyxymu:  That’s not the most scary in our life. I saw some worse fights.

vromanov:  And where do you see the cruelty? This is NATURAL behavior for dogs. And depriving them of this – that is cruel.
