A young girl from Perm (Russia) broke up with her boyfriend after a 5 years long relationship because of a random photo proving his infidelity. The convicting evidence was accidentally discovered in the online service Yandex Maps (the Russian analogue of Google Maps).

A car which creates the panoramic pictures of streets became an unwitting accomplice in destroying the relationship between the 24-years-old Marina Voinova and her boyfriend Alexander.

The man’s infidelity came to light by accident. The girl was looking for some address in the web service Yandex Maps and for better visualization she loaded the street panorama.

- At first I just noticed a familiar male silhouette, – said Marina. – After taking a closer look, I realized that it was my fiance Sasha together with his first love. All doubts were dispelled when I saw that his arm was in cast: he broke his hand last summer… and at that moment also my heart. I couldn’t hold my tears and started crying right in the office.

That day Marina wasn’t able to stay at work and went back home. After crying for few hours, she decided to talk to her boyfriend.

- When Sasha came home, I immediately called him to computer and asked him to find that address in the map, – told the girl. – When the image loaded, Sasha’s face changed in color. I looked in his eyes, waiting for explanations.

Alexander did not deny anything and confessed. The young man explained that he cheated on Marina not because of big love [ed: to another girl] but due to his stupidity.

- I was shocked by this confession, – said Marina. – I realized that I did not want to see him again, let alone build relationship with him. At first I regretted searching for that address on Internet, but eventually realized that it was silly to blame the Web for my boyfriend’s unfaithfulness.

According to Yandex, in three years since the launch of the Yandex Maps service there were few complaints from people who found themselves in different panoramas. The vast majority of users are, on the contrary, quite happy to find themselves in the pictures.

- The presence of bystanders in the panoramic images does not conflict with the Russian law, since people are not the main subjects, – commented the PR Manager of Yandex Yekaterina Karnaukhova. – However, if some user does not like any particular image, he/she can send a link with the detailed description of the reason why that image should be removed.
