Salary slip of one Russian doctor (see the explanations in the text below).

This snapshot of salary slip was posted in internet yesterday with the following description:

Position:  Obstetrician-gynecologist.

Grade:  2 [ed: freshly graduated medical doctor]

Salary: 4,686 [ed: less than $ 150]

[Note: according to PayScale.com, the annual salary for the holder of MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Russia should be in the range of RUB 984,000 - RUB 3,156,000 - which is 17.5 to 56 times more than the salary shown in the paycheck]

Number of work days according to the timetable:  22.    Hours:  171.6

Actually worked (hours):  93.6

[Note: Since this is the first paycheck - probably the doctor started not from the July 1]

Basic salary:  2,556.00  Hours: 93.6

District coefficient:  383.40  (15%)

Overall counted:  2939.40

Including the current month:  2939.40

Income tax:  382.00

Salary (transferred to bank):  2557.40 [ed: about $80]

Summary: Taking in account that the bonus (district coefficient) is equal to income tax, it is easy to calculate that the monthly salary of this freshly graduated Russian doctor is less than 150 USD.

beloborodoff:  I all the time talk and write about it. People of intellectual professions in Russia are people of the third grade. I myself am the former engineer and know it firsthand. Russian state is the enemy of intelligent man. There is no such thing in any other country. Even in fucking Africa the doctor is Man.Я об этом уже дано говорю и пишу. nemmerl (replying to the above):  Doctors who know what to do, earn in Moscow at least 100 thousand [ed: more than 3 thousand USD per month]. There are private clinics and private practice.Врачи, правильно себя ведущие, зарабатывают в Москве как минимум 100 тыс. Есть частные клиники, есть частная практика.

nikolaushkas (replying to the above):  I don’t want to be a doctor “who knows what to do”. I just want to be a doctor as I was taught to be.не хочется быть ‘правильно ведущим себя’ врачом. хочется быть просто врачом, как учили.

grace888:  On the other hand the authorities turn a blind eye to [the widespread practice of] bribes in medicine. Unfortunately, doctors are actually forced to extort money (as well as police, teachers and other state employees). Having the army of “soiled” with bribery people is good for the thieves’ regime. Then you can safely force the same teachers to rig the elections, cops – beat the protesters with batons etc. Everyone is tied with crime (voluntarily or involuntarily).Зато власти закрывают глаза на взятки в медицине. К сожалению врачей фактически принуждают к поборам (равно как полиционеров, учителей и прочих бюджетников). Иметь армию ‘повязанных’ взятками людей для воровского режима – это благо. Потом можно спокойно заставить тех же учителей фальсифицировать выборы на участках, ментов – бить протестующих дубинками по голове и т.д. Все повязаны криминалом (вольно или невольно)

human_agency:  I just don’t understand what was that person thinking about, when she chose that profession? Didn’t she know what to expect next? Why was it necessary to go that route at all?Я одного не понимаю, человек, когда выбирал себе профессию, он чем думал? Неужели не знал, что его ждет впереди? Зачем было идти по этому пути вообще?

I believe that the choice of profession is the crucial step and we must think with our head, instead of complaining that they don’t pay.Я считаю, что выбор профессии – ответственный шаг и надо сначала головой думать, а не ныть потом уже о том, что тебе не платят.

If nobody goes into medicine, there will be a market demand for this profession, therefore the salaries will increase. But while there are people going to work for peanuts – nobody will raise their salaries.Если никто не пойдет во врачи, то возникнет рыночный спрос на эту профессию, следовательно – вырастут и предлагаемые зарплаты. А пока есть люди, идущие работать за копейки – никто им зарплату поднимать не станет.

She is an obstetrician, loves her profession, has dreamed to dedicate her whole life to it, but cannot – because she simply won’t survive. It was sad to listen to her, how she sighed while telling that she only left with a small shift “for the soul” and rest of the time spent in the salon earning for life by doing manicure.Недавно в маникюрном салоне молодая симпатичная девушка жаловалась на подобную историю. Она акушер, очень любит профессию, мечтала бы посвятить ей всю жизнь, но не может – тогда она просто не выживет. Грустно было ее слушать, как она вздыхая рассказывала, что вынуждена оставить себе лишь минимальную смену ‘для души’, а все остальное время должна проводить в салоне, заработывая маникюром себе на жизнь.

And she is not the only one. In the beauty salon near our house we have six graduate doctors working there, all of them left medicine because of the salary. It is ridiculous to say what kind of things we had done in this beauty salon during the last year: course of injections, washing of wounds, changing the bandages, removal of stitches. Lovely women, longing for their real job and doing everything with pleasure and absolutely for free.И она не одна такая. У нас в салоне красоты рядом с домом 6 дипломированных врачей трудятся, все ушли из медицины из-за зарплаты. Смешно сказать, но мы в этом салоне красоты чего-только не делали за последний год: и курс уколов, и промывание ран, и перевязки, и снятие швов. Милые женщины, скучающие по своей настоящей работе, делают все с удовольствием и совершенно бесплатно.

And she replied ‘Why do you suffer? Come to us, we will be happy to make injections”. So for our family the beauty salon became the clinic branch.)))А началось все с того, что моя мама пожаловалась парикмахеру что в поликлинику не может попасть из-за очередей, а в частной клинике уколы ей слишком дорого обходятся, а ей и говорят: ‘Что же Вы мучаетесь? Приходите к нам, с удовольствием все проколем!’. Так для нашей семьи салон красоты стал филиалом поликлиники.)))
