Unsuccessful suicide attempt killed one man (not the one who tried to commit suicide) and injured 8 more.
Initially the explosion was linked to some technical problem which led to gas leak. But soon investigators found the real reason…
Initial report about the explosion
[ translated from Trud.ru ]
At least five people were injured in an explosion in a nine-storey residential building in Yekaterinburg. One man sustained serious injuries. All occupants of the house were evacuated.
Three of the victims were the employees of the gas company, three other – tenants.
Specialists from the gas company arrived due to emergency call about the strong smell of gas. Explosion occurred when they were shutting the gas pipe.
One of the victims – a third-year student of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Ural Federal University – was catapulted from his apartment by the explosion into the street. He fell down from the second floor and was hospitalized in the city hospital № 23.
Real reason revealed – the explosion was caused by suicide attempt
[ translated from LifeNews.ru ]
Investigators are studying the online correspondence of the third-year student Dmitry Shabarshin who blew up a residential house in Yekaterinburg.
Just few minutes before the tragedy, in which one person was killed and eight injured, the guy described his preparations for the explosion.
[This is my last day with you.
On the picture is the way I'm going to leave.
Is there anyone who knows, how much time the tap must be open so that the explosion is guaranteed to occur in the relatively hermetically closed kitchen 12.5+ cube meters?
Fuck the answers "The more the better", since I couldn't close all gaps in the door and my neighbors will smell this stinky shit.
Also, will the matches be okay?]
Web users immediately gave him the detailed tips for suicide, while others sarcastically urged him to hurry up.
- Maybe they did not believe that the guy indeed decided to make such a desperate act, – say the residents of the affected house. – But it is unclear why did the boy, who wanted to go to another world, decide to take there his neighbors.
The tragedy occurred on October 15 in Yekaterinburg, Onezhskaya 12. Residents who smelled the gas called the emergency services, but the latter didn’t have enough time to prevent the huge explosion.
The seriously wounded 35-year-old employee of the gas company Vasiliy Lavrik died from the injuries. Several other people were wounded, including the man in whose apartment the explosion occurred.
Let’s see what comments Dmitry Shabarshin received to his request to help him in committing suicide.

If Russia were a decent state it would provide the firing squad to help this kreativschik finish the job.
Three details caught my attention in this story:
1) Lack (at least so far) of the known suicide motive
2) The fact that Shabarshin was the student of Philosophy
3) Comment of one netizen who proposed Shabarshin to commit suicide in church
These 3 details combined together remind me the personage of Kirillov from “Demons” of Dostoevsky.
He committed suicide due to purely philosophical reasons. Also, in the book there was the revolutionary Verkhovensky who urged Kirillov to take on himself guilt for the crime that he hadn’t committed and write it as a reason in his suicide note.
Now, I can imagine some today’s “revolutionaries” recruiting such philosophical suiciders to promote their agenda.
Huh?
Thanks to those helpers, the guy did follow their instructions.
Unfortunately, he failed and someone died for him.
Probably, his life will be more painful than death from now on.
So he was the philosophy student that was ejected from the building by the blast? How ironic…. Wow. Interesting how you brought up the comment about Dostoevsky. I wonder if he was inspired by it in some way.
While I understand that I am in the minority here, but cases like this are far too common (where someone wishing to commit suicide accidentally kills/hurts others), so why hasn’t society accepted that suicide is just a fact of societal life. Rather than trying to convince people not to commit suicide, why not provide safe and easy ways to do it so that nobody is hurt?
Futurama had those Suicide Booths, I think a solution like that would be far more beneficial than harmful. We have too many people as it is, there is no reason to save those that no longer wish to be a part of society.
Plus, such a solution would quickly separate those who are trying to get attention from those who are truly fed up with life.
Again, I know I am in the minority here … I am just stating my opinion.
I would LMAO if the guy killed was one of the numbnuts who was giving him advice on here….
Karma!
The Goob hath thusly ruled on this matter.
You selfish POS. One dead and 7 injured for your temper tantrum? Next time you want to kill yourself, try postage stamps on moving tires. An American Favorite, Gangnam Style.
I’m shocked by the comments here. Is there no understanding about severe depression?? For those of you who do not understand why someone could be so depressed that they want to die: try to imagine the WORST day of your life, and then try to imagine feeling that bad *every day, all the time*, without stop. And no matter WHAT you do (except maybe therapy), you can never stop the horrible pain. Just because people don’t have depression themselves, the world needs to start gaining understanding and COMPASSION for those trapped in mental suffering. Less judgment, more compassion.
The problem I see is that there is far too much compassion in this world. We do everything possible to ensure that nobody ever dies, nobody is ever hurt and nobody is ever insulted. Its pathetic. I find this compassion delusional because the more you give the more becomes expected. Rather than making life better, we are turning this world into a bunch of wining babies that expect the world to be handed to them.
If you want to be compassionate, why not try being compassionate to those closest to you? There is no need to spread this compassion beyond them because rather than being appreciated it becomes expected. Keep your circle tight, keep everyone in it happy and you will live a happy life.
This world, and America especially, is turning into an entitlement state. I think this is wrong on a number of levels. You are not owed anything because you’re alive. If you can’t cope, step aside.
karmazfool — Google is no help. Please explain how one commits suicide with postage stamps on moving tires. I’m baffled.
In America, parents of children in the 50s told their kids to put stamps on rolling truck tires. A variation is tighten the lugs on a rolling tire.
An act of stupidity that causes another’s death.
I support suicide and plan to use it myself if the pain ever gets too great. I will not be a murder as well. Dude should have just hung himself.
