In the latter days one of the most discussed topics in Russian political blogs was the infamous Twitter post of Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of Russia.
In it Zyuganov made the following comment about the death of American ambassador Chris Stevens.
Translation: ‘The American ambassador to Libya was shot like a dog. He was the major expert on the Libyan “revolution”. He reaped what he has sown’
Reactions of Russian bloggers to Zyuganov’s tweet
Below you will find the post excerpts translated from various Russian blogs. These reactions to Zyuganov’s tweet come from the editorial compilation published on September 19 in the digest of LiveJournal.ru (main blogging platform in Russia).
From http://jurialhaz.livejournal.com/176106.html:
Everyone was in shock. Zyuganov, the cowardly leader of cowardly Communists dared to speak properly and openly express his true opinion! He simply stood up and called a spade a spade:
The American ambassador to Libya was shot like a dog. He was the major expert on the Libyan “revolution”. He reaped what he has sown.
And one can’t argue here. That’s how it really is. Well, except of the fact that Ambassador died like the dog which inhaled carbon monoxide, and not fairly executed. Actually, it can be said about all Anglo-Saxon invaders and their representatives on the “democratized” territories.
Neither Jews, nor Russians, nor allies shied away from openly calling to kill Germans (not just the Nazis!!!) who came to foreign lands to establish their “Neue Weltordnung” – now called “New World Order”.
Let’s recall the famous words of the Jew Ilya Ehrenburg “Kill the Germans!” …
I think that for those who live in the states “democratized” by Americans, this appeal of the Jewish journalist is very relevant also today – only the word “German” should be substituted with “American” or “NATO soldier”.
In fact, the Americans together with NATO have already surpassed Hitler’s numbers of murders of civilians around the world – by hunger, phosphorus, napalm, chemicals, bayonets and missiles. Their score has exceeded 20 million long time ago.
Wouldn’t the following words be close for the Afghan boy, whose family was killed by American missile or for Iraqi girl, whose mother was raped and then cut open by American or Estonian or Georgian soldier in NATO uniform?
We have learned: Americans are not human beings. From now on the word “American” is the most terrible curse for us. Henceforth the word “American” will discharge the gun. We will not talk. We will not be angry. We will kill. If during the day you haven’t killed at least one American, your day is lost. If you think that your neighbor will kill an American for you – then you did not understand the threat. If you don’t kill American – American will kill you. He will take your relatives and will torture them in his accursed Guantanamo. If you cannot kill American with bullet, kill American with bayonet. If your area is quiet, if you wait for the battle, kill American before the battle. If you let American live, American will hang your countryman and disgrace one of your women. If you killed one American, go and kill another one – there is nothing merrier for us than American corpses. Don’t count the days. Don’t count the miles. Count only one thing: how many Americans you have killed. Kill American, – asks the old mother. Kill American, – begs the child. Kill American, – screams the native land. Don’t miss. Kill!
It was written God knows when, and by a Jew! But what kind of infamous leader the communists in Russia have! Worm, which cannot behave like a man and answer for the words he said. Just a schmuck. He started running in circles even though nobody presented him with a “bill”.
Americans only indirectly hinted that they did not like Zyuganov’s words, and he is already in panic, comes up with one excuse, then – with another. First he put the blame on Twitter, saying that “his statement was not complete due to limitations of 140 characters”. Then he blamed the assistants who manage his Twitter in misinterpretation of his words…
Today it finally became clear that the Communist era has passed forever. It’s impossible to imagine that Stalin, Brezhnev or even Khrushchev would squirm in such way because of the slight disapproval of the U.S. State Department. Zyuganov showed himself in all his glory. That’s the kind of party and the leader that this party deserves.
From http://anton-dashkin.livejournal.com/159129.html:
The U.S. State Department is considering options for the sanctions that may be applied to the Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, who in his microblog compared the killed American ambassador to a dog.
According to “Коммерсантъ”, the punishment’s severeness will depend on who will become the next boss in the White House.
If Mitt Romney succeeds in elections, Zyuganov’s relations with Washington will be completely severed. Republicans are determined to change the American foreign policy, restoring its firmness.
If Barack Obama wins, the sanctions anyway will follow. However, currently, this issue is not raised because it is considered unprofitable for the campaign.
By Всеволод Радченко:
Americans should stop sticking their nose in every place, where nobody asks or waits for them. They got what they wanted, maybe now they will finally understand something, although I doubt it.
By Геннадий Донской:
Well, someone had to say the truth when it is so obvious! Well done Gennady, but only if he doesn’t wobble and shake now, looking for excuses for what he has said.
So true: they got what they fought for! Stupid Americans think that by force they can create the same regime of double standards as they have. But Muslims are incorrigible, they simply used the stupid riches and went on in their own way. The idiots deserved it!
From http://turbolunokhod.livejournal.com/138122.html:
Let’s leave the ethics of Comrade Zyuganov’s statement aside (there is no such thing as ethical politicians – recall the enthusiastic “Wow!” of Hillary Clinton when the brutal murder of Gaddafi was reported to her), and talk about the political consequences.
And consequences there are since Americans are outraged.
<…>
The obvious question is – will there be any reaction from Russia to John McCain’s recent statement about Putin or Romney’s statement about Russia in general?
From http://dimasandmann.livejournal.com/:
They should be more often trolled likes this by Zyuganov…
From http://fraticelli.livejournal.com/458894.html:
It’s actually not clear why this tweet caused such a nervous reaction <…> Wasn’t Christopher Stevens shot? Or was he shot in some elegant way, like a gentleman? No, everything was exactly as it is written in the tweet, even though Zyuganov goes too far with the rhetoric – calling him the “major expert”… which ambassador, of course, wasn’t.
Also, it is very strange that Zyuganov is apologizing to Americans (and capitalists in general) – it’s like Nikita Khrushchev would fawn over Nixon, apologizing for ideological confrontation and the arms race.
Instead, the leader of the Communist Party should be happy with PR from the main opponents and raise the degree of confrontation, while Zyuganov behaves as if he is afraid of making it into the new Magnitsky list.
Or maybe he is indeed afraid? Are you, Gennady Andreyevich?
From http://users.livejournal.com/badger_/277171.html:
- Gennady Zyuganov made a sharp comment about the situation in Benghazi, where the U.S. ambassador to Libya was killed <…>
- The United States are outraged by the Twitter post made by the Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov <…>
- In the interview with RIA Novosti Zyuganov said that the meaning of his words was distorted <…>
And this impotent was several times running for president? Imagine how he would rule the country, constantly looking back at the United States. What if he said something wrong, what if they wag a finger from there. Enough, we’ve been through it before …

I am so shocked.
Did Zyuganov not know what he wrote? Yes, I think he did.
He just didn’t expect a tweet can be so powerful and influential.
What is also surprising is that Russian bloggers’ reaction talks even louder than
Zyuganov.
One thing you can do to make yourself famous is to talk boldly.
Its possible that he had hoped for such an outcome. With a little premeditated spin, it is possible that the tweet was carefully thought through hoping that such a reaction would follow. Lets be honest, he is now substantially more popular for what he said, regardless of whether or not some of that popularity is negative.
Hard to say what he hoped for, but his behavior is not congruent – he rather quickly backed off.
As the Russian saying goes – “Назвался груздем – полезай в кузов” (You called yourself a mushroom? So, get into bucket!)
There’s nothing quite like being a US citizen and truly hating what your own government does, then see hate aimed directly at you for what is going on in the world. There are so many issues just within the borders here, but my government insists on sticking its nose elsewhere and completely ignoring what is eating at the core of the country.
Translation:
“Zyuganov said what he thought. But because of his cowardly nature he retreated. I voted for him, but now I understand that he is a weakling and coward, he would not be able to pull such country like Russia. Such “president” is only good for our opponents.
